Understanding Pelvic Floor Anatomy

Most of us don't have a clear understanding of the anatomy or our pelvic floor muscles. We think about sphincters and kegels but maybe don't realize that like the abdominals we have three layers of pelvic floor muscles and each layer has a specific role. The muscles of the pelvic floor are the floor of your core and function primarily for postural, respiratory and structural support of our pelvis and pelvic organs. Let's get a quick anatomy lesson so we know how everything was designed to work in the first place.

Check your posture. When you hear that the pelvic floor muscles are postural in nature, our first instinct should be to do a quick posture assessment. How do you tend to sit and stand all day long? Could making some improvements there make a difference?
