Fearless Living, Testimony 1

fearless testimony

This month we have been celebrating the new year by embracing fearlessness. Kelly, our founder, has been leading the way by sharing the fearless things she’s faced down. From ropes courses to swimming meets, she’s been an inspiration to the rest of us to live our lives fearlessly. But it’s difficult to be fearless when your body holds you back. For some people, a swim meet is an attainable goal to reach. For others, just trying to conceive again is full of fear. As part of our theme this month, we have asked fans to share their fearless stories. What would they do if they weren’t afraid? What have they been able to face because of facing fears? What motivates them to be fearless? We have been absolutely inspired by our clients’ stories of fearlessness. Below is the incredible testimony of one of our clients, Carly, who embraced her fears to have another baby, despite a painful pregnancy and loss of a child.

I have three beautiful girls – all close together in age. After my second daughter, I had a un-diagnosed DR (diastasis recti). My third pregnancy was difficult; I had labor-like contractions from 27 weeks on but wasn’t in pre-term labor. I now know that this was likely caused by my DR and weak core. I was basically on bed-rest for several months because my contractions were so painful if I wasn’t lying down and resting. I said to myself, “Never again!”

My beautiful third daughter, Hannah, was born on June 12, 2013, with no complications. She was the happiest, easiest going baby I had ever met! At 10 months old, I found a lump and Hannah was diagnosed with cancer – Rhabdomyosarcoma to be exact. We also soon found out she had Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, as did my husband and middle daughter. This syndrome means a lack of a tumor suppressor gene, and almost always means the person will get cancer fairly early in their life. Many times they will get multiple cancers. My father-in-law and sister-in-law both died of cancer caused by this syndrome.

Hannah was a trooper through her treatments – many rounds of chemo, surgeries, and proton radiation for which we had to travel to another state for 6 weeks. Unfortunately, nothing worked and cancer spread. We lost our beautiful girl at 21 months old on April 2nd, 2015.

Five months after Hannah’s death, my mom’s health took a turn for the worse and we found out there was nothing more they could do for her. I lost my mom on October 4th, 2015 – just over 6 months after Hannah’s death.

So now we move to the present… We are so blessed with strong faith, and a strong marriage which has helped us get through the past few incredibly difficult years. I had quickly ‘forgotten’ the pain of my third pregnancy and we have known for a while we would have another child. We wrestled with options of IVF which would allow for genetic testing of the embryos but ultimately decided that wasn’t the best option for us. So, now we are expecting our fourth child in August. We are so thankful and joyful for the opportunity to again be parents. We are filled with hope and faith that we can get through this pregnancy and that God knows what is best for our family. Of course, we are hopeful for a child without the same genetic condition, but ultimately we are at peace with whatever is in God’s plan for our family.
