From Disconnected to Empowered: My Diastasis Recti Journey
So I was just working on a project, and in this project I was going back to the origin story of The Tummy Team and where it all started. And it brought this attention to me of, like, when I first learned about diastasis recti. And I went back and really realized how little I knew in the beginning, and how much that disconnect from my body and that feeling that everything was falling apart—and that really, that sense of failure. Like, I was trying to work out, I was trying to do all the right things that I thought that I needed to do to have a strong core and to heal from my birth and to not have this saggy, weak tummy. And nothing was working, and my body was falling apart.
And I look back and I think how different my life is now—not just because, you know, this is my work and this is what I do and I get to help so many people, which is such a huge blessing—but also, like, in my own body, it’s almost hard to believe that I had those feelings. Because I am so connected to my core now, and it had nothing to do with the exercises I was doing.
It had so much more to do with connection—my breathing, my posture, how I walked, stood, sit, stand, lifted, carried my kids, used the bathroom—all the things I was doing during the day. And then I still, to this day, I’m doing. And how I connect to my core and how that has changed my life. It’s changed how I move and how I’m connected, and even just like my sense of confidence and my sense of self.
And as I’m looking at this project of the origin story of The Tummy Team and looking back to the beginning, it’s almost hard to remember how I felt before, because of how I feel now. And in the end, that’s really what I want for everybody. I want everybody to have that feeling.
