Protective Posturing

One way that we deal with trauma and pain is to curl into ourselves in a way to protect the most vulnerable part of our body, our belly. Sometimes this is a subtle rounding of the shoulders and tucking of the pelvis and other times we feel best in a fetal position. Both postures tighten the muscles in our chest and hip flexors and keep our core from being able to fully activate and stabilize our body. It can feel very vulnerable to elongate and open up that area of our body so we avoid it. This lesson shares more about this survival strategy and how it impacts your core rehab process.
